A total of 332 winners of the Junior Police Call (JPC) Awards Scheme 2015 were commended on June 11 for their outstanding contributions in disseminating anti-drug and anti-crime messages, organising and participating in community services, as well as promoting the JPC Scheme.

They received trophies from Acting Commissioner Wong Chi-hung, Director of Operations Lau Yip-shing, Acting Chief Superintendent of Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB) Tse Chun-chung, and the Group General Manager and Chief Operating Officer, Asia Pacific of HSBC, Mr Raymond Cheng.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr Tse said that the JPC Scheme was established more than four decades ago with an aim to nurturing youth leaders and fight crime partners. As of today, the scheme has almost 200 000 members. He thanked members of the JPC Central Advisory Board, JPC Honorary Presidents, school principals, teachers, JPC district councils, school clubs and officers of respective police districts for their unwavering support for the scheme.

Mr Cheng said HSBC has been encouraging JPC members to participate in community services, nurture their leadership skills and fight crime with innovation and technology. HSBC is proud to have funded the JPC Awards Scheme for 30 years. He hoped the scheme would continue to bring up enthusiastic and proactive young people in Hong Kong with integrity and vision who are also willing to accept responsibility and accountability.

The JPC Awards Scheme is organised by the Force and sponsored by HSBC. Besides the JPC awards, the "Fight Crime by You and Technology Awards" are introduced this year to inspire young people to fight crime by using innovative technology. Both types of awards comprise five categories, namely the Best JPC Member, Best JPC Leader/Advanced Leader, Best JPC School Club (Primary School), Best JPC School Club (Secondary School) and Best JPC District Council.

A selection panel comprising representatives from PPRB, HSBC and JPC Central Advisory Board picked the winners from those recommended by police districts.

For the JPC awards, Mr Lo Ka-po from Kwai Tsing District won the Best JPC Leader award while Miss Mak Tsz-yau from Sau Mau Ping District was selected as the Best JPC Member. The Kwun Tong Government Secondary School in Kwun Tong District and the Sau Ming Primary School in Sau Mau Ping District captured the Best JPC School Club (Secondary School) and the Best JPC School Club (Primary School) awards respectively. The Best JPC District Council award went to Kwai Tsing JPC District Council.

Miss Mak Tsz-yau from Sau Mau Ping District went an extra mile in the "Fight Crime by You and Technology Awards" by clinching the Best JPC Member award whilst Mr Yip Kin-man from Eastern District was selected as the Best JPC Leader. The Best JPC School Club (Secondary School), the Best JPC School Club (Primary School) and the Best JPC District Council awards went to Holy Trinity College in Sham Shui Po District, King's College Old Boys' Association Primary School in Central District and Tsuen Wan JPC District Council respectively.
