A total of 159 Junior Police Call (JPC) members were commended for their outstanding performance at the Hong Kong Award for Young People (HKAYP) Bronze Award Presentation Ceremony 2019, which was held by the Hong Kong Police Operating Authority (POA) at the Police Sports and Recreation Club on June 1. The POA was also awarded autonomy in HKAYP Gold Award assessment.

Officiating at the ceremony were Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Tang Ping-keung, Director of Operations Siu Chak-yee, Chairperson of the JPC Central Advisory Board (CAB) cum Assistant Commissioner (Support) Lam Hiu-tong, Vice-Chairperson of the JPC CAB cum Chief Superintendent of the Police Public Relations Branch Tse Chun-chung, and Chairman Mr Lo Yan-lai and Vice-Chairman Mr Kwok Wing-leung of the HKAYP Award Council.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tang Ping-keung said that the Force has been participating in the HKAYP Programme since 1973 to motivate young people to join the programme and to support the continued development of the award scheme. Noting that the attainment of the Bronze Award is just the beginning, he encouraged the awardees to further take part in the Silver and Gold Award levels of the programme.

Meanwhile, the HKAYP Award Council awarded the autonomy in Gold Award assessment to the POA at the ceremony. The Force has become the first disciplinary force to obtain the autonomy. This shows that the HKAYP Award Council and the community fully recognise the professional training of the Force. The autonomy enables the Force to train more JPC members to gain the Gold Award, marking an important milestone in the Force's youth development work.

The ceremony also featured a sharing by JPC Ambassador cum fencing athlete Mr Cheung Siu-lun, and a beatboxing performance by a JPC member from Shatin District.
