Recognised as one of the major sporting
events within the Force, the Police Annual Badminton Championships 2001
finals were held at the Police Officers' Club on September 29.
Attended by Chairman of the Police Badminton Club Foo Tsun-kong and
Vice-chairman Wong Pak-nin, the finals were even more competitive this
year following the decision to select entries for the Men's Singles by age
group, and for the Men's Doubles to be restricted by pre-determined
players' grading to offset the dominance of some Force members.
Open to all serving regular and auxiliary officers' as well as their
civilian counterparts, this annual event attracted no less than 160 Force
members.
Following the hard-fought preliminary rounds, finals winners were
declared in the following eight titles:
* Men's Singles (Open) - Police Constable Wong Hoi-yiu
* Men's Singles (Senior) - Inspector Wong Shu-chung
* Men's Singles (Veteran) - Senior Detective Police Constable Law
Kam-hon
* Men's Singles (Master) - Station Sergeant Chun Chi-wai
* Men's Doubles - Chief Inspector Leung Kwok-chun and Inspector Ma
Wai-hing
* Ladies' Singles - Woman Inspector Wong Ping-ping
* Ladies' Doubles - Woman Detective Police Constable Tong Yee-man and
Senior Police Communications Officer Lai Mei-wah
* Mixed Doubles - Chief Inspector Hui Chun-tak and Woman Detective
Police Constable Tong Yee-man
This year's event was declared a resounding success with participation
by most of the Force's top players. Trophies and prizes will be awarded to
all winners and runners-up at the Police Badminton Club Annual General
Meeting 2001/2001.
The next Annual Badminton Championships have been scheduled for
August/September 2002.
