Living-the-Values Wave IV |
||
Training of Facilitators and Assistant Facilitators was conducted between February 19 and 28. About 450 officers attended one of the training sessions. Force members are set to participate in the fourth wave of the Living-the-Values Workshops in three different levels of workshops. One for JPOs and equivalent from March to June, one for Inspector to Superintendent and equivalent in July and August, and one for Senior and Chief Superintendents and equivalent in September. Wave IV is set on the theme of professionalism with the objective of enhancing Police professionalism through all officers' joint efforts on personal commitment to professional ethics and professional image. Wave IV is launched to sustain the Force's relentless drive towards professionalism and service excellence. A one-day workshop will be provided for every member of the Force through video presentations developed from a series of real life incidents that happened in the past. Separate workshops will be arranged for auxiliary officers during their Annual Training 2003/04 in the Auxiliary Training School. "Living-the-Values programmes are designed to promote and heighten Force members' awareness and acceptance of Force values. A 3A approach (Awareness, Acceptance and Action) is adopted to facilitate the culture change. We now enter the Action phase and we wish to seek staff commitment in attaining Police professionalism," explained Assistant Commissioner (Service Quality) Mr Charles Wong Doon-yee. "After research, studies and focus groups' discussions attended by Junior Police Officers Association representatives and Junior Police Officers during their Continuation and Promotion Courses in the Police Training School, five main attributes of professionalism have been highlighted as relevant to the Wave IV workshops. They are: Integrity, Image, Intellect, Industry and Initiative. Amongst these five, the attributes of Integrity and Image of professionalism are emphasised to engender a personal commitment to sustaining collaborative efforts in building upon the professionalism of the Force as the hallmark of our service excellence," Mr Wong said. It is hoped that Wave IV can help encourage participants fully understand and appreciate their roles and responsibilities in upholding the highest standard of ethics and conduct as a member of the Police Force, thus instilling a sense of pride in Police professionalism. The preparation and production of training packs and videoed cases for Wave IV workshops were completed through the joint efforts of Service Quality Wing and Training Wing. |
