The establishment of a unit dealing with firearms and forensics started in 1851 – first the Ballistic Office, then the Forensic Firearms Examination Division under the Identification Bureau. The outstanding work of these units has helped solve many serious crimes in the city, based on scientific and irrefutable evidence.
