The 900-seat auditorium in the Kwai Tsing Theatre was packed with officers from New Territories South (NTS) Region and their families when musical groups and bands in the Force showcased their talents at the NTS Art and Culture Performance Night on September 29. NTS Regional Headquarters' Arts, Recreation and Cultural Activities Promotion Group, which was set up early this year to promote healthy lifestyle activities, hosted the cultural performance night as its first major event. The group is chaired by Kwai Tsing District (KWTDIST) Commander Ip Lau-chuen and comprises as members all the Training and Staff Relations Officers in NTS Region and other officers eager to promote arts, cultural and recreational activities. The fabulous show started after pipers of the Police Band had ushered NTS Regional Commander Tang How-kong and Formation Commanders into the venue. Performing at the show were the Police Choir, Police Children's Choir and their parents, Chinese Orchestra of the Police Chinese Cultural Club, Melodica Class of the Junior Police Officers' Association, Police Guitar Folk Song Club and Police Band. The evening was full of highlights, including rendition of the famous "Below the Lion Rock" by Chief Inspector Angus Scott from KWTDIST, together with the Children's Choir, and intermezzo of the opera "Les Miserables" -'Stars' by Senior Inspector Ip Ka-fai from the Airport District. The audience was also thrilled by the hilarious and sidesplitting talk show of the two MCs, which brought loads of laugher throughout the evening. The evening reached a climax when 12 youngsters from the HK YMCA Kwai Tsing and Tsuen Wan Youth Outreaching Social Work Team performed a hip-hop dance. The three-hour show embodied the spirit of healthy lifestyle, parent-child activities and co-operation between the Police and community. The atmosphere was pushed to the peak at the concluding stage when the NTS Regional Commander led the audience to sing a famous Cantonese song extolling police officers. Towards the end of the show, the audience scored the performers with strings of encore and highly complimented their superb performances.
