The 'Hong Kong Police Mobile Application' (HKP Mobile App) was launched on July 18, 2012.  Smartphone users can download this application to access the latest police information at anytime and from anywhere. Since the launching, three enhanced versions have been rolled out to enrich the contents, attracting favourable feedback from users.  

 

To give users better browsing experience, version 2.0 of the HKP Mobile App was launched on September 18 with refreshing design and enriched content.  The user interface has been improved for users to access police information more easily. Four new features have been added, comprising "Wanted/Missing Persons", "Crime Statistics", "Crime Prevention Advice" and "Traffic Matters".

 

 

The index page and layout in version 2.0 is a complete facelift by adding auto-rolling banners and icons to make it more user-friendly. 

 

The rolling e-banner on the top of the index page shows new items, key messages or the latest alert. It includes the Hong Kong Police YouTube, Wanted/Missing Persons, Crime Statistics and Crime Prevention Advice. The icons at the bottom are other police information, namely Press Release, Clarification/Response to Media Enquiry or Report, Notification of Public Meeting/Public Procession, Traffic Matters, Recruitment and Contact Us.

 

The contemporary design of "sliding menu" is also introduced. On tapping the menu icon on the left upper corner, the menu will pop up, showing a list of features.  Users can browse police information more easily.

 

In addition, a "usage tips" will appear when the version 2.0 is downloaded and operated for the first time.

 

 

Version 2.0 has strengthened the content by adding "Wanted/Missing Persons" that would draw public attention more effectively.  These appeals are synchronised with the ones on the Police Public Page. 

 

Furthermore, 10 types of key "Crime Statistics" have been added, including Wounding & Serious Assault, All Robberies, All Burglaries, Serious Drug Offences, Snatching, Pickpocketing, Taking Conveyance Without Authority, Street Deception, Rape and Indecent Assault. Users can choose two types of viewing modes to view the crime figures on territory and regional bases. In the "Show by number" mode, the accumulated number of crimes for the same period of this year and last year will be shown. The "Show by comparison" mode shows the increase and decrease and the percentage of changes in the same period of this year and last year.

 

Meanwhile, six types of tips and alerts will be available on the Crime Prevention Advice", covering the latest alerts, seasonal tips and cyber crime information that would enhance public awareness.

 

To promote road safety, "Traffic Matters" has been added with items such as road safety events and tips, the steps to take after an accident and the phone numbers of regional traffic reporting centre.

 

Apart from the four new features mentioned above, the current feature "Notification of Public Meeting/Public Procession" has been enhanced by displaying in a calendar format, the relevant information within the application.
