Under the Overseas and Mainland Study Visit Programme run by Crime Wing for officers of District Investigation Teams (DIT), Chief Inspector Li Chi-kin from Wan Chai District led a delegation of two Detective Inspectors, two Detective Sergeants and 10 Detective Police Constables to visit the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau from September 9 to 12.
The delegation members visited many crime units, including forensic laboratories, digital fingerprint examination centre, Crime Headquarters and a Detective Exhibition Hall, and gained an overview of Shanghai's crime trend and investigation work. They found impressive the state-of-the-art technology and equipment the bureau uses, including a mobile forensic laboratory command car used to conduct forensic tests and make live broadcast at a crime scene to a command post.
The delegation members also visited the Pudong and Huangpu Divisions, where they learned of the local crime-fighting strategies and had valuable discussions with crime officers.
For the delegation members, the visit was an eye-opening experience. Detective Police Constable Li Chi-to commended: "After the visit, I knew more about the advanced technology the bureau uses as well as its criminal investigation procedures. The visit was a great opportunity for us to broaden our horizons."
Detective Senior Inspector Cheung Lap-tak added: "We not only enjoyed the opportunity to observe the jobs of our Shanghai counterparts, but were also impressed with the equipment they are using."
