New Territories South (NTS) Region held a workshop on handling Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) for more than 100 frontline officers on September 26 in a bid to enhance communication between the officers and NEC. The speakers included a social worker, who provides services to NEC and a Nepalese young man who shared with the officers the experience of his daily life and the difficulties he had come across in Hong Kong.

NTS Regional Crime Prevention Office also introduced a volunteer project in NTS Region, "Positive Link", under which a voluntary team provides support to NEC in the form of Chinese lessons for NEC students to help them integrate into the community. The project marks a social responsibility of the Force and NTS Superintendent (Crime) Chan Wai-ming presented letters of appreciation to members of the volunteer team at the workshop.

Those interested in helping NEC are welcomed to contact NTS Regional Crime Prevention Office.
