A total of 153 auxiliary police recruits of the Special Basic Training Course (SBTC) demonstrated a smart turnout at their passing-out parade at the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Headquarters under heavy rain on August 24. Coming from 13 universities and colleges, the recruits had completed a two-month intensive training programme and will serve the community in different police districts.
Prof Way Kuo, President of the City University of Hong Kong (CityU), was the Reviewing Officer, the first University President to take the salute in such parade. He commended the officers for showing a high spirit despite the pouring rain.
Sharing his experience of serving a marine corps in Taiwan when he was young, Prof Kuo said tough training was very valuable for the growth of youths. "With confidence and courage, one would finally succeed," he said.
Prof Kuo encouraged the recruits to serve the community, uphold the rule of law, and maintain the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong with determination and impartiality.
Auxiliary Police Commandant Yiu Yeung-lung thanked Prof Kuo and representatives from other universities for joining the passing-out parade. Both Mr Yiu and Assistant Commissioner (Support) Lam Man-wing, who was present at the parade, highly praised the recruits for their outstanding performances.
