The Police Athletics Club (PAC) delegation to the World Police and Fire Games 2013 (WPFG) celebrated their achievements in this biennial event on October 4.
After two years of preparation and strenuous training, 25 PAC members headed for Belfast, Northern Ireland, in August, led by PAC Chairman, Mr Cheng Kwok-hung, and competed in 41 events, bagging a total of eight gold, four silver and nine bronze medals.
A four-time WPFG participant, Sergeant (SGT) Ching Ying-wai was a veteran amongst the Force delegates. "The WPFG has always been one of the motivations driving me to train hard. I am really delighted to see a stronger, larger and more versatile team this year," he said. With perseverance and a great performance, SGT Ching and his team pulled off a silver medal in the half-marathon team event.
Participating in WPFG for the first time, Inspector Lai Hiu-ming clinched one silver and two bronze medals in 100m sprint, 4X100m relay and 4X400m relay. She attributed her success to the support of her teammates: "The competitions were really tough, but thanks to the tremendous support of my teammates, I was able to perform in my best form. I am really proud to have represented the Force in such an international sport event."
The WPFG 2013 was a memorable experience for the PAC delegates and they are determined to carry their success to the next Games in Fairfax, Virginia, USA, in 2015.
