Director of Crime and Security Mr Lo Mung-hung led a three-member delegation to attend the 82nd INTERPOL General Assembly in Cartagena de Indias, Columbia, from October 21 to 24. The Force delegation, which also included Narcotics Bureau Chief Superintendent Tsang Cheung-tat and Liaison Bureau Senior Superintendent Yau Siu-kei, was part of the Chinese delegation led by Mr Xue Dongzheng, Deputy Director General, Ministry of Public Security.

The General Assembly is INTERPOL's supreme governing body and meets annually to discuss and implement major policy decisions. The 82nd General Assembly brought together more than 630 ministers, police chiefs and senior law enforcement officials from 190 INTERPOL member countries.

During the four-day General Assembly, the international delegates discussed major strategic initiatives and anti-crime operations, including international border security, terrorism, cyber crime, counterfeiting and organised crimes.

The conference also provided an opportunity for discussions between the Force and the Colombian National Police on exploring methods to expedite exchange of criminal information and intelligence, particularly in relation to drug and human trafficking.

At the conclusion of the General Assembly, INTERPOL President, Mr Mireille Ballestrazzi, commented: "The various discussions and debates during the past four days reflected the collective experience of member countries and the INTERPOL General Secretariat, and will enable us all to continue to develop initiatives to enhance the safety of citizens throughout the world."

Echoing the President's view, INTERPOL Secretary General, Mr Ronald Noble, said:  "As the world's largest police organisation, we must ensure that our 190 member countries can count on our support whenever and wherever it is needed."
