Pat Heung Division (PHDIV) has many wide spreading remote villages, which are prone to burglary for lack of adequate security facilities. Therefore, Yuen Long District has been running the "Skycrosser" project since 2011 to stamp out burglaries in village houses.
The main thrust of "Skycrosser" is to make the rural community more conscious of prevention of burglary with seminars, emphasis on the importance of installing CCTV sets, publicity posters at burglary black spots, publicity audio clips in Cantonese, English, Nepali, Urdu and Indonesian, checking of security systems in housing estates, and analysis of crime trends.
Besides law enforcement, PHDIV teams up with rural committees to organise seminars for villages and encourage them to install more CCTV sets and burglary alarm systems. Heeding PHDIV's advice, six villages installed CCTV sets in the past four months. Encouraged by this response, PHDIV is hopeful that "Skycrosser" would achieve its intended goals.
