Following a recommendation made by the "Force Study Team on Recruitment and Retention of Crime Officers at District Level", Crime Wing Headquarters has been organising overseas and Mainland visits for District Investigation Team (DIT) officers in a bid to boost their professionalism in criminal investigations.

Between October 21 and 24, Chief Inspector Wong Cheung-ming from Sau Mau Ping District led a delegation of two Detective Inspectors (DIP), two Detective Sergeants and 10 Detective Police Constables (DPC) from various Districts visited Singapore Police Force (SPF).

The delegation was welcomed by Mr Chan Peng-khuan, Head of Investigation at SPF Headquarters, who gave an overview of the structure of SPF and the crime situation in Singapore. After this, the delegation visited the Police Cantonment Complex and various crime units, including the Unlawful Moneylending Investigation Branch, Secret Society Investigation Branch and Specialised Crime Investigation Branch to learn about their crime-fighting strategies.

During the visit to a Land Division, the delegation members met with frontline officers and shared investigation experiences.  Ms Lee Sok-ying, Deputy Director (Development), later arranged a tour of the Home Team Academy and briefed the delegation on the crime investigation and forensic training Academy offers to officers.

The study visit was a valuable experience for the delegation members.  DPC Hung chuen-lung commented: "SPF shares a similar structure with the Force. The visit offered us a good opportunity to share experiences of investigation procedures with our Singapore counterparts."

DIP Tai Chun-ting added: "The visit is valuable for gaining an insight into the different structures and policies of detective work.  The visit also helped enhance communication and networking with our overseas counterparts."
