In August last year, Organized Crime and Triad Bureau (OCTB) mounted an operation against a syndicate recruiting and trafficking Thai females to Hong Kong for prostitution. The operation resulted in cracking down the syndicate with the arrest of three core members and rescue of two Thai victims. The Royal Thai Consulate-General, Immigration Department, Department of Justice and the NGOs helped the victims testify in Court. In December last year, two core syndicate members were convicted of multiple counts of "trafficking in persons to Hong Kong", "keeping a vice establishment" and other offences and were sentenced to imprisonment up to 30 months.
Recently, the Royal Thai Consul, Mr Khanthong Nuanual, presented a letter of appreciation to OCTB officers at the Royal Thai Consulate for busting the human trafficking syndicate.
