More Police Districts have implemented Winter Precaution and crime prevention measures.
WTSDIST publicity drives
On January 3 and 6, Wong Tai Sin District (WTSDIST) distributed crime prevention flyers and souvenirs to residents and shops in Wong Tai Sin and Sai Kung, reminding them to step up crime prevention measures.
Two publicity drives were conducted with Assistant District Commander (Operations) Chim Tak-ming and Assistant District Commander (Support) Cheng Tak-sun officiating before a large gathering of members of WTS District Council, District Fight Crime Committee (DFCC) and area committee members, local community leaders, and rural committee representatives. During the drives, both Senior Police Call (SPC) and Junior Police Call (JPC) members helped distribute crime prevention flyers to residents.
YTDIST's festive season appeal
Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) has appealed to the public to refrain from abusing drugs during the festive season. On December 19, it teamed up with Yau Tsim Mong DFCC, Narcotics Division and Action Committee Against Narcotics in conducting an Anti-Drug Publicity Campaign in Tsim Sha Tsui.
During the campaign, Deputy YTDIST Commander Siu Kit-hung, Commissioner for Narcotics, Mrs Hui Lam Yin-ming, Chairman of the Action Committee Against Narcotics, Prof Shek Tan-lei, Chairman of YTM DFCC, Mr Chan Siu-tong, and DFCC members distributed publicity flyers to customers on liquor licence premises and passers-by, appealing to them to stay away from drugs during the festive season.
SMPDIST Anti-crime Float Parade
Sau Mau Ping District (SMPDIST), in collaboration with Kwun Tong DFCC and JPC Honorary Presidents Council, hosted a Winter Precaution Anti-crime Float Parade on January 11. Among the guests attending the launching ceremony with SMPDIST Commander Andrew Lovatt were District Councillors, DFCC members, JPC Honorary Presidents, ethnic minority volunteers and SPC and JPC volunteers.
Following the ceremony held in a school, all the participants boarded a float to proceed to Sau Mau Ping Shopping Centre, Lok Wah Commercial Centre and Telford Plaza to distribute Lunar New Year scrolls, red packets and other publicity items. Along the way, the float broadcast messages reminding the locals to take care of their household property.
KTDIST publicity campaign
Kwun Tong District (KTDIST), in conjunction with Kwun Tong DFCC, Kwun Tong JPC and Fight Crime Elderly Ambassadors, rolled out a "Winter Precaution Fight Crime Publicity Campaign" to promote winter precaution and fight crime messages.
Speaking at an opening ceremony, Kwun Tong DFCC Chairman, Mr Chow Yiu-ming, praised KTDIST, Non-government Organisations and the local community for working closely in fighting crimes. In response, KTDIST Commander Chau Cho-kei thanked all organisations and the local community and called on the public to pay more attention to security of homes and shops and safeguard their property.
Following the opening ceremony was a programme of an anti-deception drama, magic show and an anti-drug song by the Fight Crime Elderly Ambassadors and JPC members. Finally, the guests and supporters handed out anti-crime flyers, New Year scrolls and souvenirs to shops and residents.
KE anti-drugs carnival
The Regional Crime Prevention Office of Kowloon East (RCPO KE) and the Barnabas Charitable Service Association jointly held an anti-drugs carnival in Kowloon Park Plaza and offered a variety of publicity programmes on December 28. Featuring an exhibition on the common dangerous drugs in Hong Kong and their harmful effects, the carnival succeeded in making both teenagers and their parents more aware of the need to steer clear of dangerous drugs.
A former drug addict helped reinforce the anti-drug messages by recounting his own bitter experience, pointing out that dangerous drugs would ruin both family and life, and encouraging the "hidden" drug addicts to quit drugs and turn over a new leaf.
SSPODIST promotion
To remind the public to safeguard their property, Sham Shui Po District (SSPODIST) Commander Li Chi-hang, together with officers from Cheung Sha Wan and Sham Shui Po Divisions, joined hands with Sham Shui Po DFCC Chairman, Dr Cheng Kam-chung, committee members, and SPC members handed out anti-crime flyers and souvenirs to shops on December 18.
SSPODIST also displayed anti-burglary posters in buildings, offering tips on prevention of burglary and stressing the importance of security check on visitors. Posters listing out police contact phone numbers were also distributed to buildings with property management or security personnel.
HKI burglary prevention seminar
The Regional Crime Prevention Office of Hong Kong Island Region (RCPO HKI) hosted a seminar on prevention of burglary for more than 100 representatives from building management companies and security personnel at the Leighton Hill Community Hall, Causeway Bay, on January 15.
The seminar aimed at heightening awareness of improving security facilities and measures for buildings, particularly those under renovation with scaffolding erected. Security equipment companies were invited to introduced and demonstrated the use of "Electric Fences" and advanced closed circuit television at the seminar.
