The Specialised Services Training Centre of Police College has reviewed and strengthened the contents of the "Language Resource Bank" at its website. Website users can find a good collection of general and police work-related language resources categorised into English, Chinese and Putonghua.

 

The English learning resources include self-study courses for writing English memos, reports or performance appraisals. The resources also provide useful matters on use of English tenses, rhetoric, and concise and accurate writing for officers to upgrade their standard of written English.

 

With the Chinese learning resources, officers might not only improve Chinese writing through self-study of official Chinese writing courses but also learn to write elegantly with "Tips for Using Elegant Words and Phrases in Official Writing" and "A collection of Chinese Idioms". 

 

The Putonghua learning resources offer work-related Putonghua training courses for officers to brush up their Putonghua competence. The "Putonghua Toolbox" is a very practical resource for those who have to make speeches in Putonghua. Apart from generating Putonghua Pinyin transcriptions for a textual script, this tool also provides downloadable voice recording of a speech in standard Putonghua.
