A spiring to becoming a centre of police training and development, Police College is conscious of quality assurance in training and has developed a Quality Assurance Mechanism (QAM), overseen by a Quality Assurance Committee (QAC), to boost and maintain quality in the training provided for Force members.
To facilitate learning and sharing of experience amongst Force training units in accreditation and quality assurance, Police College hosted a sharing session on January 24.
In his opening address to representatives from the college, Auxiliary Support Bureau, Commercial Crime Bureau, Narcotics Bureau, Marine Region, Police Tactical Unit, Force Search Unit and Police Negotiation Cadre (PNC), QAC Chairperson, Senior Superintendent (SSP) Cheng Tak-ming, who is Head of the Specialised Services Training Centre (SSTC), stressed the importance of training and development for enhancing the Force's capability and advised the participants to leverage the valuable experiences of other units for developing their own training programmes.
The sharing session started with Force Training Officer Law Chun-hung introducing the QAM and the academic accreditation of recruit foundation training with the Open University of Hong Kong and the Charles Sturt University in Australia. After the introduction, Police College Chief Inspector Robert Lok spoke on his preparation work for the vocational accreditation for recruit foundation training with the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework.
In addition to the college's presentations, Senior Inspector Dorothy Nieh from PNC outlined the PNC academic accreditation with the University of Hong Kong, School of Professional and Continuing Education, and relevant programmes. The other representatives also shared their experiences and good practices in providing professional training to Force members and overseas counterparts.
The sharing session enabled the participants to share the experiences of Police College and other Force training units in maintaining quality in training and development, besides offering a platform to exchange views and lessons learned.
Before conclusion of the sharing session, SSP Cheng welcomed the participants to attend QAC meetings and offered the help of SSTC if advice on accreditation and quality assurance in training is required.
