For enhancing co-operation among the police forces in Guangdong (GD), Hong Kong and Macao, the liaison departments of the forces have been taking turns to host the annual GD-HK-Macao Tripartite Liaison Officers' Meeting since 2004. The meeting discusses major topics, besides improving mutual understanding.
With the tripartite meeting entering its 10th year, the Liaison Bureau (LB) invited Mr Lau Zhiyuan, Division Chief of the Hong Kong Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Public Security, to attend the meeting in Hong Kong between February 11 and 13.
At the meeting, liaison officers from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao laid a solid foundation for achieving objectives in 2014. The delegation heads reviewed the achievements made last year and projected the direction of future developments. All three parties focused on discussion of police liaison, centralised management, secured e-mail link and preparatory work for the upcoming 20th Tripartite CID Heads Meeting. The delegates also discussed combatting smuggling of stunning devices with Airport District officers.
After the tripartite meeting, LB Senior Superintendent Yau Siu-kei said: "With the gradual completion of major infrastructure projects in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, plus the successful Individual Visit Scheme, the linkage among the three places will be closer than ever. In this fast-changing world, cross-boundary crimes are becoming more complicated with each passing day and the crime situations have brought tremendous challenges for law enforcement officers. However there is a solid foundation for co-operation and I have full confidence in our capability to jointly combat cross-boundary crimes."
