Traffic Wardens were issued with a new uniform on March 2 to better meet their operational needs.

Senior Traffic Warden (STWD) Au Chi-chun, who joined the Force as a Traffic Warden in 1977, has sat on the Working Group for Review of Traffic Warden Uniform. Having served in the corps for 37 years, STWD Au has witnessed many changes to the Traffic Warden uniform over her career.  She recalled that woman Traffic Wardens wore skirts when she joined the Force, which was replaced by trousers in 1999. Later, a black multi-purpose jacket was introduced as well as a raincoat to cope with the needs of outdoor work.

Speaking of the new uniform, she said: "The most visible difference between the old and new uniform is the colour of the shirt, which has changed from brown to beige, giving a more lively look. Uniform items also carry the words, Traffic Warden, so that the officers would be easily identified by tourists."

STWD Au retired last month but still loves her job. "Handling illegal parking and getting the job done is a public service. When dealing with complaints by the public, problems would be easily solved if we listen with empathy," she noted.
