Sergeant Sin Ka-keung, affectionately known to his colleagues as "Garfield", launched his new book, "The Escape from Death", on February 27 with the support of former Commissioner, Mr Dick Lee, and former Director of Management Services, Mr Tang How-kong.
Garfield cheated death in a shootout in Tsim Sha Tsui on March 17, 2006. Since then he went through a prolonged and agonising period of rehabilitation. He remained undaunted and did not give in to his sufferings and, with the support of his family, especially his aged parents, eventually pulled through his ordeal.
Today, Garfield has recorded his painful rehabilitation in his book, hoping his traumatic experience would inspire the younger generation to cherish what they have owned and bravely embrace challenges. During his rehabilitation, he realised that even breathing, drinking and swallowing were not taken for granted. Perseverance and determination were what helped him ride over adversity and move forward.
Garfield will donate all the royalties from the first edition of his book to the Police Welfare Fund.
