The two charity concerts to celebrate the 170th Anniversary of the Force have concluded successfully at the City Hall amid loud applause. The concerts have raised a total of $2.2 million, which will be donated equally to the Children's Cancer Foundation and the Helping Hand.
In addition, the afternoon matinee concert for the less privileged groups was equally successful.
Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung has thanked not only Mr Richard Tang for his generous sponsorship of the administration and production costs of the concerts, but also the audience for their support.
The performance of "Flying Dragon & Leaping Tiger" by Mr Ronald Chin and the Hong Kong Drum Ensemble as well as the rendition by well-known singer Frances Yip captivated the audiences. The climax came when Ms Yip led Police Band, Police Choir and Police Chinese Orchestra in singing the household song, "Under the Lion Rock", before the curtain was lowered.
Meanwhile, the Children's Cancer Foundation and the Helping Hand have written to Mr Tsang, thanking the Force for continuing and staunch support.
In an appreciation letter, the Chairman of the Foundation Tony Ho said: "We are deeply grateful for the tremendous effort and dedication that members of the Hong Kong Police Force put into making the 170th Anniversary of Hong Kong Police Force Charity Concert such a colossal success. The princely sum of over $1,100,000 raised was a hugely pleasant surprise that was way beyond our expectation.
"The Children's Cancer Foundation owes an enormous debt of gratitude to members of the Hong Kong Police Force, to the performers and to all those who have given their time and energy to help with this meaningful event," Mr Ho added.
The Executive Director of the Helping Hand Bella Luk commented: "The amount you raised is truly incredible and we could imagine how great it was for the support you have gained from the public and your supporters. We are most grateful for all your help and philanthropy and hope to say a big thank you to every member and supporter of your Force who have organised, performed, donated or bought tickets for the concert.
"Also we would like to thank you for offering free tickets with gifts for 200 of our elderly. They found the show very enjoyable and were appreciative of your support."
