Following the Force-wide launch of the Senior Police Call (SPC) programme in February, a "Watch the Steps and Learn the Traps Before You Invest" seminar for SPC members was held at Police Headquarters on April 4.

SPC Central Advisory Board (CAB) Chairman, Assistant Commissioner Chung Siu-yeung, kicked off the seminar before 250 SPC members from 20 Police Districts and guests from SPC CAB and the Investor Education Centre (IEC).

Co-hosted by Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB), Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) and IEC, the seminar aimed at enhancing communication with the elderly, promoting partnership in crime prevention, reducing victimisation of the elderly, and providing a platform for the elderly to participate in meaningful activities. At the same time, CCB also disseminated the theme of "Fighting Scam Together" at the seminar.

In his welcoming speech, Mr Chung thanked SPC members and Police Districts for supporting the seminar. Formerly an experienced CCB officer, Mr Chung called on SPC members to pass on messages of preventing scams to their families and friends and to remain a smart investor.

During the seminar, CCB officers updated the audience on the modus operandi of investment fraud and offered crime prevention tips, while IEC highlighted financial intermediaries' malpractices and offered knowledge of prudent wealth management.
