In an undercover operation, Wong Tai Sin District (WTSDIST) cracked down a "Sap Sam Cheung" (Russian Poker) street gambling den and an illegal mahjong parlour in Tsz Wan Shan Estate Central Playground and Yuk Wah Crescent respectively and arrested 30 men and women, including three operators with triad backgrounds. In the operation, officers also seized $7,000 in gambling money and found a dangerous drug, "ice", on a woman gambler.
The operation successfully neutralised a street gambling syndicate that targeted public estate residents. This effort earned the praise of the members of the Tsz Wan Shan District Council and various district organisations. On April 30, they called at Wong Tai Sin Police Station and expressed their gratitude to District Commander Chow Oi-wang and the officers concerned. As a token of their appreciation, four District Councillors, Mr Ho Hon-man, Mr Chan Man-ki, Mr Yuen Kwok-keung and Mr Wong Yat-yuk, together with members of the Wong Tai Sin District North Area Committee and the chairpersons of various mutual aid committees in Tsz Wan Shan, presented a silver plate and tapestry banner to WTSDIST.
