The Kwai Tsing District "Silver Harrier Project" offered a series of crime prevention and road safety events last month in a bid to encourage Senior Police Call (SPC) members to participate in community activities and to deepen their sense of belonging.
The SPC members attended a "Watch the Steps and Learn the Traps Before You Invest" seminar at Police Headquarters and assisted in distributing anti-crime leaflets on the New Territories South Regional Crime Prevention Day. They also attended two "Integrated Seminar on Crime Prevention and Road Safety" offered by Kwai Tsing District (KWTDIST) in Kwai Chung Division and Tsing Yi Division. At the seminars, anti-scam and anti-burglary flyers were distributed, while Crime Prevention Unit officers explained to the elders how to avoid falling victim to scams, and offered crime-related information such as illegal gambling. In a view to reducing traffic accidents involving elderly pedestrians, the New Territories South Regional Road Safety Team disseminated road safety messages at the seminars as well.
The above events attracted a total of more than 400 elders. Encouraged by this, the "Silver Harrier Project" will continue to recruit more SPC members with different activities so that they would serve the community and help police disseminate anti-crime messages.SPC pitch in for crime prevention
