The Police Licensing Office (PLO) held a seminar on May 15 to update nearly 200 officers from various formations on the latest legislation and Force policy governing the licensing regime.
At the seminar, PLO officers gave presentations on reviews of licensing of liquor premises, amusement games centre and arms, and on investigation of money lenders licence applications.
At the invitation of PLO, the Chairman of the Liquor Licensing Board (LLB), Mr Yau How-boa, and a LLB member, Mr Wong Kit-lung, had exchanges of views with the officers. Mr Yau explained how the LLB balanced public interests, public safety and the concerns of business operators before granting liquor licences and imposing licensing conditions on a case-by-case basis. Also discussed were views on how the liquor licensing regime can be improved and how frontline officers can assist in vetting applications.
The seminar offered an experience-sharing platform for officers performing licensing duties. They were interested in the new business formats of liquor-licensed premises and the operations of the new electronic dart centres. In general, they found the seminar useful for their daily jobs and professionalism.
Information on the seminar is available on the PLO's homepage on POINT.
