The Wanchai Sport Ground was packed with athletes and supporters from different formations on April 16 for the Police Athletic Championships 2014. The Police Athletic Club was honoured to have Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung to present trophies to the winners.
The event saw six new records set comprising five individual records and one new record in relay. Police Constable (PC) Ng Tai-wai from Central District captured the 100m senior championship again with a new record of 11.54 sec. Sergeant (SGT) Li Chak-ming from Police Tactical Unit (PTU) Headquarters shattered the senior record of 200m and 400m with remarkable 23.61 sec and 57.13 sec respectively. PC Ho Mei-yan from Police College set a new record in female 800m, while New Territories North (NTN) Regional Headquarters set another record in 4x100m relay with a notable time of 43.80 sec.
The 4x100m Major Formation Challenge Relay was a hotly contested event. Kowloon East secured the title, followed by NTN and Kowloon West as first and second runners-up respectively.
Yuen Long District won the Other Formations Championship (Male & Female), while the Specialist /Training Units Championship went to Police College.
In individual events, SGT Tang Chun-yip from PTU Hong Kong Island, the new record holder of 400m, captured the Victor Ludorum for the second year. The Carpe Diem Bowl went to PC Lai Hok-yan from Counter Terrorism Response Unit, while PC Kwok Tsz-ching from Yuen Long District took the Victrix Ludorum.
The event went a long way towards promoting healthy lifestyles among officers and collective team spirit among the athletes. The Club Chairman has thanked helpers from the Police Football Referee Club, Police College and PTU for their unfailing support and assistance for the event.
