To engage both the local and Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) youngsters, the Police Community Relations Office (PCRO) of Kowloon City District (KCDIST), partnering with Operation Breakthrough and Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Kowloon City Children and Youth Integrated Service Centre Jockey Club Youth Express, has formed a football team comprising both local and NEC teenagers since March.
Adopting Operation Breakthrough’s concept of "changing through sport", this football project aims at helping the young boys to beef up their physique, discipline and self-confidence, as well as to develop a positive value in life with the assistance and guidance of police volunteers. The project would also promote communication between the local and NEC youth.
So far, a total of 16 local and Thai teenagers have joined the football team, receiving regular coaching every week. On May 7, the PCRO organised a friendly match between the Kowloon City Breakthrough Football Team and officers of the Patrol Sub-unit 1 of Hung Hom Division. It was an exciting game and at the end the officers beat the boys with 4:3. Both teams enjoyed the match as well as friendship.
