Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung and Acting Commissioner Ma Wai-luk attended "Iftar"at Islamic Union of Hong Kong in Wan Chai and Kowloon Mosque in Tsim Sha Tsui on July 2 and 14 respectively.
According to Muslim faith, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar is a holy month called Ramadan, during which Muslims will pray and fast intensively, refraining from eating and drinking from dawn till sunset.
Mr Tsang was accompanied by Wanchai District Commander Lee Wing-kwong and Deputy District Commander Leung Sai-kau at the "Iftar" dinner.
Among the over 90 guests attending the "Iftar" dinner were Consul-Generals of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, State of Kuwait, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Indonesia, and Malaysia as well as the heads of other disciplined services.
In his welcoming speech, Mr Justice A.R. Suffiad, Chairman of the Islamic Union, told the guests that their attendance with Muslims in breaking the fast together was a testimony to the racial harmony in Hong Kong.
Both Mr Justice Suffiad and the Vice-chairman, Bro Haji Saeed Uddin, praised the Force for its efforts to maintain law and order as well as a close relationship with the community.
Accompanying Mr Ma at the "Iftar" were Regional Commander Kowloon West Cheung Kwai-kee, Acting Yau Tsim District Commander Siu Kit-hung, Divisional Commander Tsim Sha Tsui Wong Wai and Police Community Relations Office Yau Tsim District Wong Ping-ping. Other distinguished guests included Secretary of Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, Consul-Generals and dignitaries from various organisations.
