Railway District (RAILDIST) is constantly looking for new and innovative ways to promote crime prevention and passenger safety within the railway system. An initiative that is proving particularly effective is RAILDIST's "Little Smart Cops" programme.
Working in partnership with surface formations and schools, RAILDIST officers teach students how to stay safe when travelling on the railway system and offer a guided-tour of railway stations and police facilities. MTR Corporation staff also provides information about the functions of stations and trains. Armed with these information and knowledge, the students will help RAILDIST to distribute anti-crime fliers.
Reporting on the success of the "Little Smart Cops" programme, RAILDIST Training and Staff Relations Officer, Senior Inspector (SIP) Cheng Wing-on, said, "The students seemed really excited when they visited the railway stations and enjoyed handing out anti-crime fliers to the passengers. Seeing the smiling and cheerful students, the commuters were more willing to accept the fliers."
On July 18, 17 students from Tseung Kwan O Catholic Primary School joined officers from RAILDIST, Kwun Tong District Police Community Relations Office, and Commercial Crime Bureau at Tseung Kwan O railway station to promote safety and encouraged passengers to take care of their personal belongings.
RAILDIST Kwun Tong Line Commander, SIP Lau Yun-keung, also reported, "The Little Smart Cops were keen to learn about the different types of crime and did a great job promoting crime prevention messages."
RAILDIST is working with other surface formations to plan more "Little Smart Cops" activities.
