A delegation of 15 District Investigation Team (DIT) officers from various districts visited Korea from September 1 to 4 under an exchange visit programme organised by Crime Wing in accordance with a recommendation made by the Force Study Team on the Recruitment and Retention of Crime Officers at District Level.
The delegation called at the Korean National Police University (KNPU) - the cradle of police inspectors in Korea - and attended several presentations and meetings arranged by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
KNPU was established to groom students into police officers, professionals and intellectuals with the philosophy of service to the country, with 120 police inspectors trained up each year. During the visit, KNPU shared with the delegation its teaching ideas and experience of enhancing policing ability. Both parties had discussions on tackling cyber crime. KPNU has established a research centre to train officers to combat cyber crime, especially in the areas of cyber crime intelligence analysis and cyber terrorism.
The delegation also visited the console and disaster control centre of a District Station under the Korean National Police Agency and attended a sharing session with Korean crime investigators. The delegation exchanged with its hosts experience and expertise in establishing and strengthening the relationship between the police and the public.
The visit, covering very practical investigation skills and shedding light on a different style of community policing, was a great experience for the DIT officers and a great benefit for their career developments.
