Arranged by Police College, a delegation led by Senior Superintendent (SSP) Chan Lok-wing, comprising Superintendent Choi Tung-tsoi, two Chief Inspectors and five Senior Inspectors, visited the Queensland Police Service (QPS), Australia, from October 20 to 24. The delegation also met the QPS Commissioner, Mr Ian Stewart, besides paying visits and having experience sharing sessions with the QPS.
During the visit, the QPS was preparing for policing the G20 summit held in Brisbane last month. As past experiences showed that different groups would seize the occasion to stage public events on various issues, the delegation was invited to exchange views on operational planning and arrangement to deal with public events with the G20 Task Force.
Following the visit to Brisbane, the delegation members were arranged to visit the police operational area and a Joint Emergency Services Coordination Centre for an international car-racing event in Gold Coast. They were also given an opportunity to attach to the local police for a late night operation targeting at alcohol-related crime in the Surfers' Paradise Entertainment Precinct.
The five-day programme also included visits to the Road Policing Command, Task Force Maxima, Westgate Academy (Leadership and Management Development), Surfers Paradise Police Centre, Rapid Action Police Group and Water Police Base. The delegation members found the programme most inspiring and invaluable in broadening their horizons.
