Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB) Superintendent (SP) Connie Yau was presented with the 40+ Distinguished Fellow 2014 award by the 40 Plus Association on December 6 for her active participation in a wide range of community services.
The association is a government registered charity organisation working with other sectors of the community to promote charity work, including services for youth and elderly. The 40+ Distinguished Fellow is awarded to people who excel in their life after the age of 40. They are outstanding in their professions and have displayed a remarkable performance in community service. They also have an exemplary character and committed themselves to serving the community.
Since coming to know the dragon boat sport in 2003, SP Yau has been actively promoting dragon boat races. As well as setting up a training hierarchy for Hong Kong, she has helped the Police Dragon Boat Club and the China Hong Kong Dragon Boat Association serve the underprivileged, including building schools in remote areas in the Mainland, raising funds for the elders to subscribe to the "Emergency Link Service" and for children suffering from different illnesses. She also has led her volunteers to serve the youngsters studying in Zheng Sheng College as well as the elders living in solitude in North District.
In PPRB, SP Yau is in charge of the Junior Police Call and Senior Police Call schemes as well as other community projects.
