District Commander Lantau Patrick Laidler and officers of Lantau North Division joined the Vice-chairman of Island District Council, Ms Chau Chuen-heung, and members of Lantau Senior Police Call (SPC) in bringing anti-deception messages to the door-steps of the residents of Fu Tung Estate in Tung Chung on November 2.
This publicity drive aimed at preventing different types of deception, particularly Naked Chat, online scams and phone scam. Lantau North Divisional Commander Shum Hiu-wai said Lantau District (LTDIST), like other police districts, had seen a rise in technology crime, prompting it to take more preventive initiatives. LTDIST Police Community Relations Officer Fan Chin-ting said members of the Lantau SPC would assist police throughout the Winter Precaution campaign and so would Junior Police Call (JPC) members.
EDIST
Eastern District Police Community Relations Office (EDIST PCRO) joined forces with the Eastern District Fight Crime Committee (EDFCC) in rolling out the "EDIST Year-end Fight Crime Publicity Campaign - Bus Parade 2014" on November 28.
The focus of the campaign was distribution of fliers and souvenirs to residents and shopkeepers, reminding them to watch out for year-end crimes, particularly miscellaneous theft and phone scams.
The campaign commenced in Victoria Park, Causeway, following an officiating ceremony performed by Deputy District Commander Ip Chi-keung, EDFCC Chairman, Mr Yeung Wai-sing, EDFCC Working Group Chairman, Dr Yeung Wai-hong, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR Hong Kong Island Sub-Office Deputy Division Chief of Social Work Division, Mr Liu Xiaoping, and Assistant District Officer (Eastern District), Ms Au Tsz-kwan.
After the ceremony, a promotional double-decker carried the guests to various spots in Eastern District and broadcast crime prevention messages in Cantonese, Putonghua, Hokkien and Urdu (Pakistan's official language) on the way.
SMPDIST
Sau Mau Ping District (SMPDIST) held a "Year-end Winter Precaution Fight Crime Publicity Day" on November 29. Joining forces with SMPDIST in the event were Kowloon East Regional Crime Prevention Office, Kwun Tong and Kowloon City District Councils, Kwun Tong and Kowloon City District Fight Crime Committees, SMPDIST JPC Honorary Presidents Council, and SMPDIST SPC and JPC.
On the day of the event, SMPDIST Commander Andrew Lovatt, Deputy District Commander Cheung Shun-ho and Police Community Relations Officer Yiu Hon-sang rode on a Fight Crime Publicity Bus and visited a number of housing estates, including Kai Ching Estate, Tak Long Estate, Sau Mau Ping Estate and Lower Ngau Tau Kok Estate, to drive home crime prevention messages and information on prevalent crimes such as phone deception, Naked Chat blackmail and burglary as well as the latest modus operandi, reminding residents to stay vigilant and avoid falling preys to crime.
