Traffic New Territories South (T NTS) kicked off a "Wise-Ride Don't Rush" Safe Cycling Promotion Campaign in the Yat Tung Estate in Tung Chung on January 3 with Lantau District (LTDIST), Islands District Council Traffic and Transport Committee (IDC T&TC) and Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol/NTS (HKRSP/NTS). The campaign placed emphasis on safe cycling and use of protective gears for cycling.
Declaring campaign open were T NTS Acting Senior Superintendent Chan Hoi-lun, Acting LTDIST Commander Ho Yun-sing, Chairman of IDC T&TC, Mr Lo Kwong-shing, Commander of HKRSP/NTS, Mr Cheung Chun-hung, and Chief Supervisor, HKRSP/NTS Office, Mr Lo Shiu-kwok.
The campaign attracted large crowds with variety programme of game booths, Tibetan dancing by children, Djembe, Diabolo, sign language songs, and artistic cycling with cycling trainers offering safe cycling tips. As Tung Chung is also home to a large Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) community, T NTS also drove the message of "don't rush" home to NEC cyclists.

A diverse programme was offered to disseminate road safety to over 1 000 spectators through display of police motorbikes, distribution of fliers and souvenirs, performances by a kindergarten and Junior Police Call members, dances, magic show, fancy skipping, martial arts show and game booths.
In another effort, welcoming guests to the "Kowloon West Road Safety Fai Chun Calligraphy Competition" held in a community hall in Cheung Sha Wan on January 30, T KW SSP Chan Kwok-kee pointed out that practising calligraphy and using roads had something in common - requiring concentration and calmness and avoiding being impetuous.
"These elements are essential for reducing traffic accidents and also match the theme of the competition – safe trip makes a happy Chinese New Year and road safety brings blessings to the whole family", SSP Chan noted.
During the competition, Chairman of Yau Tsim Mong District Council Traffic and Transport Committee (T&TC), Mr Ip Ngo-tung, Chairman of Kowloon City District Council T&TC, Ms Li Lin, member of Sham Shui Po District Council T&TC, Mr Chan Wai-ming, Commander of Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (Kowloon West Region), Mr Chan Shu-lui and tutor of the Hong Kong Police Painting and Calligraphy Club, Mr Ng Wing-lau, watched about 60 contestants wrote almost 1 000 pieces of Fai Chuns.
