Anti-Elder Abuse Seminar
To boost Senior Police Call (SPC) members' knowledge and vigilance of abuse of elders, Police Public Relations Branch joined forces with Social Welfare Department and the Family Conflict and Sexual Violence Policy Unit (FCSV) of Crime Wing in organising an "Anti-Elder Abuse Seminar" on January 28.
Officiating at the seminar, the Chairman of the SPC Central Advisory Board (CAB), Assistant Commissioner Chung Siu-yeung, pointed out that the Force attached great importance to engaging the community, in particular the elderly. The seminar aimed at promoting crime prevention by forging a fight crime partnership with the elderly and enhancing protection for them by reducing their risks of falling preys to crime. In this regard, the SPC members attending the seminar could help reduce the chance of elder abuse by passing on the related messages to their families and friends.
The guest speakers, Chief Social Work Officer (Family and Child Welfare Branch) from Social Welfare Department, Mrs Choy Wong Lai-chun, and Senior Inspector Lau Wai-fan from FCSV, gave talks on legislation, case studies and preventive measures for elder abuse. The seminar attracted 250 SPC members from 21 districts and CAB members.
Fight Crime Fun Day
The Police Community Relations Office of Eastern District (PCRO EDIST) teamed up with the Eastern District Fight Crime Committee (EDFCC) in organising a "Seniors and Police Join Hands to Fight Crime Fun Day" on January 23, with 156 EDIST SPC members attending the event.
The Vice-chairman and members of the EDFCC and Eastern District Councillors joined the SPC members in enjoying talent performances by SPC members and performances by the Police Pop Music Club – B Band. Officers from the PCRO and Commercial Crime Bureau took the opportunity to brief the elders on street, phone and Internet scams and distribute crime-fighting souvenirs.
