The roads on Lantau South are narrow and winding. The speed limits vary from section to section, and cows often appear on the roads suddenly. Hence, motorists have to be very careful whilst driving in Lantau South area to avoid traffic accidents.  To tackle this problem, Lantau District (LTDIST) has come up with a number of initiatives to make motorists more conscious of road safety.

 

As only vehicles issued with “Closed Road Permit” by the Transport Department are allowed in Lantau South area, LTDIST, with the assistance of the department, issues copies of a publicity leaflet to vehicle owners while they apply for or renew the permit. The leaflet reminds them to watch out for cows and drive carefully in the Lantau South area. 

 

On the other hand, LTDIST and the Road Safety Team of Traffic New Territories South Region organised a road safety seminar on February 9 for bus and taxi drivers driving in the Lantau South area.  Following the seminar, copies of a publicity leaflet were distributed in Tai O.
