The Vice-chairman of the Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC), Mr Chan Kin-por, and 13 council members, accompanied by the IPCC Secretary-General, Mr Ricky Chu, visited Crime Kowloon West (KW) Headquarters and Mong kok District (MKDIST) on February 11 with a view to getting a better idea of police work and meeting frontline officers. Accompanying the IPCC members on the visit were Director of Management Services Chiu Wai-yin and Complaints & Internal Investigations Branch Chief Superintendent Cheung Kin-kwong.
The IPCC members were first given a briefing at Crime KW Headquarters on the command structure of Crime KW, the challenges being faced by officers and the nature of complaints against the police. They then visited MKDIST and were given a briefing in handling of reports from the general public and on prisoner detention procedures.
At open forum sessions, the IPCC members listened to frontline officers' accounts of the challenges and difficulties they faced during Operation SOLARPEAK. The officers also shared their personal experiences.
The Complaints Against Police Office will arrange more IPCC visits to police formations in a bid to enhance understanding between IPCC and the Force.
