The Foundation Training Centre of Police College held the first Operational Fitness Challenge on college campus for Probationary Inspectors (PI) and Recruit Police Constables (RPC) on February 7.
This Challenge required competitors to sprint 600 metres, scale walls and steps, and overcome other obstacles in accordance with the Professional Physical Ability Test course before running up a steep hill into a shooting range, where they fired 12 rounds at a small target from a distance of 10 metres. The course required a great deal of fitness, agility and stamina for the 600-m run, marksmanship under duress, weapon handling, and reloading skills during the shooting part of the competition.
Over 130 PIs and RPCs took part in the competition. PI Chan Han-ming won the Women's Final with a time of 9'09s, and in the Men's Final, RPC Chan Ming-hin won with a time of 6'37s. They received trophies from Foundation Training Centre Senior Superintendent Graham Mitchelmore and Basic Competencies Training Division Superintendent (SP) Paul Hobson.
In a closing address, SP Hobson thanked Physical Training and Weapon Training Instructors for organising the competition. "The composition of this challenge reflects the importance of being physically and mentally capable of using personal skills under challenging conditions on the frontline," he noted.
