Force members turned out in force for the Physical Fitness and Health Management (PHM) Carnival 2015 at Police Sports and Recreation Club (PSRC) on March 22 to support Personnel Services and Staff Relations Branch and Police Sports and Arts Clubs in promoting a culture of exercising regularly and pursuing a healthy lifestyle. The event also sought to remind Force members to pay more attention to physical and psychological health, as well as financial prudence.
The carnival coincided with completion of enhancement works for PSRC and Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung was invited to unveil a Memorial Plaque to mark the Grand Opening of the New Annex Block.
A total of over 5 800 regular and auxiliary officers, civilians and their families participated in the carnival and enjoyed a great variety of programmes, including performances and fun-filled game booths set up by 50 Police Sports and Arts Clubs, with many pitting against one and another in an indoor rowing competition while others enjoying bubble football fun game and exercise play-in.
Pok Oi Hospital and Hong Kong Society of Medical Professionals supported the carnival by providing free health check-up and medical consultations for the participants. Besides the diverse activities on physical health, there were also game booths in psychological wellbeing and prudent financial management.
The event also saw staging of the Force Colours Award Presentation Ceremony and the 2015 World Police & Fire Games (WPFG) Flag Presentation Ceremony. Twenty-seven officers were presented with the Force Colours Award for Sports while 12 officers with the Award for Arts. In addition, Sergeant Li Chak-ming was awarded the Watson Cup as Outstanding Athlete of the Year and New Territories North Regional Headquarters pulled off again the Purdon Shield for overall outstanding achievement in sports.
The WPFG Flag Presentation Ceremony took place before over 300 guests and Force athletes when CP handed over the Force flag to the Chairman of the Force Organising Committee for the WPFG, New Territories South Regional Commander Lui Hon-kwok. The WPFG 2015 will be held in Fairfax County, Virginia, USA, from June 26 to July 5.
