Deputy Commissioner (Management) (DCP MAN) Lo Wai-chung led a four-member delegation to attend the Inauguration of the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI), the INTERPOL World 2015 and the 22nd INTERPOL Asian Regional Conference (IARC) in Singapore between April 12 and 17.
The IGCI is a newly established INTERPOL facility in Singapore to combat cyber crimes, enhance capacity building and training, and render operational and investigative support to member countries across the world. Chief Inspector Louis Kwan of Liaison Bureau is currently seconded to the IGCI as a Digital Crime Officer.
The INTERPOL World 2015 is a new biennial event to identify and develop innovative initiatives against global security challenges.
The IARC is a biennial INTERPOL event, the highest-level second to the INTERPOL General Assembly. The 22nd IARC brought together more than 160 police chiefs and senior law enforcement officials from around 30 member countries and international organisations in Asia and South Pacific. Key policing issues concerning the region, strategic initiatives to combat cross-jurisdictional crimes were discussed, including terrorism, cyber crime, organised crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking and counterfeiting, as well as regional anti-crime operations. The three-day conference concluded with a consensus on strategic initiatives and action plans to strengthen regional co-operation.
Mr Lo also took the opportunity to take the Force delegation to pay a courtesy call on the Executive Director of the IGCI, Mr Noboru Nakatani, and exchanged views on the strategies and measures to combat cyber crimes. Mr Lo also met the INTERPOL Secretary General, Mr Jürgen Stock, police chiefs and the senior law enforcement officials of some of the Force's strategic partner countries to deepen bilateral and regional collaboration.
