Commissioner Lo Wai-chung paid courtesy calls in Beijing between May 17 and 20 after taking up his post earlier in the month. Accompanying Mr Lo on the visit were Deputy Commissioner (Management) Chau Kwok-leung and Director of Personnel and Training Au Chi-kwong.
Besides the Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission, Mr Meng Jianzhu, and the Minister of Public Security, Mr Guo Shengkun, Mr Lo also called on the Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Mr Wang Guangya. During the meetings, Mr Lo introduced the Force's new management and briefed them on the current crime situation and social order in Hong Kong. Both sides also discussed co-operation in preventing and combating trans-boundary crimes.
To further enhance mutual exchanges, Mr Lo visited the bureaux and departments under the Ministry of Public Security, including International Co-operation Bureau, Network Security Bureau and Counter Terrorism Bureau. During the visits, the representatives of the agencies unanimously agreed that co-operation and communication should be strengthened in areas such as trans-boundary crimes, cyber crimes and counter-terrorism.
