The Executive Director of the World Justice Project (WJP), Dr Juan Carlos Botero, paid a courtesy call on Deputy Commissioner (Management) Chau Kwok-leung on May 15 during his visit to Hong Kong between May 10 and 16. 

 

Being an independent and non-profit-making organisation in the U.S., the WJP publishes the annual "Rule of Law Index" to assess the jurisdictions across the world.  Hong Kong ranked 16th out of 99 jurisdictions in the WJP "Rule of Law Index" 2014.

 

During the courtesy call, Dr Botero discussed with Mr Chau the backgrounds of WJP and its "Rule of Law Index", as well as police work in Hong Kong and both parties came to understand better each other's jobs.  Dr Botero also praised the Force for maintaining the law and order and stability of Hong Kong.
