At the 2015 Bronze Award Presentation Ceremony of the Hong Kong Award for Young People (HKAYP) Police Operating Authority (POA) held at Police Sports and Recreation Club on May 9, a total of 224 young people were commended, including 33 police officers who have completed foundation training and are now serving in various Formations. Seven volunteer instructors were also appointed.
Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Wong Chi-hung, Director of Operations Lau Yip-shing, Chairman of the HKAYP Award Council, Mr Rock Chen, and Vice-chairman, Mr Lo Yan-lai, officiated at the presentation ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Wong pointed out that the HKAYP had a long history of providing young people with a platform to attain their goals, rise to challenges, broaden their horizons and serve the community. He also expressed gratitude to the volunteer instructors for their contributions.
At the ceremony, one of the police awardees, Police Constable Wong Cheong-ho from Central District, shared his experience of achieving the Bronze Award together with a Junior Police Call member awardee, Liu Kin-kuen, and an appointed instructor, Ms Ho Sui-ying.
The Force started organising activities of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, which is precedence of the HKAYP, at the former Police Cadet School in 1973. Established in 1979, the POA is one of the 18 operating authorities of the HKAYP. Police Public Relations Branch took over the activity programme in 2006 to coordinate relevant activities and hold the Bronze Award Presentation Ceremony annually to commend and present certificates to the awardees.
