Owing to the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in West Africa and the possible threat of other infectious diseases, Emergency Unit Kowloon West (EU KW) has  devised a set of protocols and a training package. Recently, EU KW offered a tailor-made training programme on handling of suspected EVD incidents to officers of KW Region.

 

Training included a practical exercise to boost officers' awareness of infectious diseases and ability to handle incidents, with emphasis on personal protective gear and the subsequent decontamination procedures. Over 150 KW officers attended the training, having boosted their ability to carry out frontline duties safely, effectively and professionally.

 

Back in September last year, EU KW and the Hospital Authority jointly conducted an exercise to test inter-departmental co-ordination and operational safety in handling an EVD victim.
