Officers of Traffic Kowloon West (T KW) had a busy time in the last two months, disseminating road safety messages to different target groups, including students, drivers, visitors, cyclists, elders and Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC).
Publicity for visitors, cyclists
The Road Safety Team of T KW held a "Safe & Joyful Crossing in Hong Kong cum Cycling Safety Kick-Off Ceremony 2015", jointly with Road Safety Council and Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (Kowloon West Region), at the Piazza of Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Tsim Sha Tsui, on July 5 to convey road safety and cycling safety messages to visitors and the public.
Officiating at the ceremony were T KW Senior Superintendent Chan Kwok-kee, Commander of Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (Kowloon West Region), Mr Chan Shu-lui, Yau Tsim Mong Assistant District Officer, Miss Jocelyn Ng, Chairlady of the Yau Tsim Mong Road Safety Campaign Organising Committee, Ms Kwan Sau-ling, and Chairman of Classic Car Club of Hong Kong, Mr Arthur Lai.
In the carnival-like event, road safety messages were driven home through game booths, display of police vehicles and classic cars, and demonstration of artistic cycling by the Civil Aid Service Cadet Corps. The Hong Kong Police Band and Po Leung Kuk Choi Kai Yau School Wind Band were on hand to liven up the atmosphere.
Enhancing school bus safety
Between June and July, the T KW Road Safety Team, in co-operation with all the District Traffic Teams and the Police Community Relations Offices in KW Region, mounted a road safety education and publicity drive for school bus drivers, parents driving their children to and from schools and students taking school buses, reminding them to pay more attention to safety while boarding and alighting from school buses, and carrying the students.
Apart from this activity, T KW has also launched a "Road Safety Little Pioneer Programme" for primary schools. One of the schools taking part in the programme is Chan Sui Ki (LaSalle) Primary School, and on June 23, a party of its students, together with officers of the T KW Road Safety Team, distributed road safety fliers to their school bus drivers and schoolmates.
Before commencement of the new school term in September, T KW will organise two seminars for school bus-drivers and the related groups.

Targeting at solitary elders and NECs
Since May this year, T KW Road Safety Team members, in co-operation with the Police Community Relations Offices and Road Safety Campaign Committees in KW Region as well as Senior Police Call members, have been visiting the solitary elders living in Sham Shui Po, Kowloon City and Yau Tsim Mong District to enhance their awareness on road safety.
The NECs, who have newly arrived in Hong Kong, are also a road safety target for T KW. On June 24, the Road Safety Team members and members of Yau Tsim Mong District Road Safety Campaign Committee called at a centre for new NEC arrivals in Yau Ma Tei and offered a seminar on road safety and the traffic laws to more than 60 NECs. The officers explained the laws, especially those related to use of road crossing facilities.

Seminar for professional drivers
The Road Safety Team of T KW hosted a seminar on safe driving for professional drivers earlier in a bid to remind them of the correct driving attitudes and safe driving behaviour.
Present at the seminar were public light bus drivers, taxi-drivers, school-bus drivers and representatives from the related sectors. The Commander of Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (Kowloon West Region), Mr Chan Shu-lui, and members of Kowloon City Road Safety Campaign Committee were on hand to support the seminar.
At the seminar, members of the Road Safety Team gave a lecture on three main themes: "Driving Attentively", "Drug-Driving" and "Drink-Driving". They also screened a video on undesirable driving behaviour, which explained the causes of traffic accidents and the ways to avoid the accidents.
The seminar also saw an animated discussion and sharing of experiences between the police and the audience.
