Commissioner Lo Wai-chung renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on police co-operation with the Commissioner of the Singapore Police Force (SPF), Mr Hoong Wee-teck, on July 14.
The Force signed the first co-operation agreement on combating cross-jurisdictional crimes and developing police collaboration with the SPF in 2012, which will expire in October. Both parties agreed to renew the existing MOU in order to strengthen partnership.
At the signing ceremony, Mr Lo pointed out that SPF is "a jewel in the crown" of the Force's international network, and the two police forces have been enjoying a long, fruitful and mutually beneficial relationship as important strategic partners.
"The memorandum that we are signing today will continue to strengthen our relationship, particularly in the fields of fighting international crimes and terrorism and also in capacity building," he said.
"Today marks a very special milestone in the relationship between the Hong Kong Police Force and the Singapore Police Force. This MOU is of particular significance as it reaffirms our close ties and the strong commitment that both Mr Lo and I, as new Commissioners of the two forces, in wanting to further strengthen co-operation with each other as we tackle common policing challenges. Our mutual training exchange programmes also allow our officers to learn from each other's good practices and innovation in crime fighting," Mr Hoong said.
