To strengthen co-operation and communication with the Nepalese community, Yau Ma Tei Division (YMTDIV) held the first formal meeting with Nepalese leaders and non-governmental organisations on July 8, sharing views on crimes and matters of concerns to the Nepalese community.
Many issues were discussed, including "Late Night Violence" and "Street Sleeper" problems. It was agreed at the meeting that regular meetings on community safety and engaging the community would be held on a quarterly basis for enhancing understanding and communication. It was also agreed that seminars on crime prevention, penalties for selling or supplying alcohol without a liquor licence would be organised in the third and fourth quarters this year.
Visits to Yau Ma Tei Police Station or other police units will also be organised for the Nepalese community to get a better understanding of police work. YMTDIV hopes that these efforts would bring the Nepalese community and the police closer together.
