The Force achieved a remarkable record of 31 gold, 63 silver and 44 bronze medals in the biennial World Police & Fire Games (WPFG) held in Fairfax, Virginia, USA from June 26 to July 5.
Force athletes performed particularly well, winning gold medals in athletics, badminton, indoor rowing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.
A Force delegation of 241 athletes was taking part in the WPFG for the 12th time, alongside 12 000 competitors from 70 countries and cities. Competing in 30 events, the Force athletes did their utmost to ensure they were at a top form and good shape at all times. And their efforts paid off at the end of the 10-day sports meet.
The Head of the Force delegation, Deputy Commissioner (Management) Chau Kwok-leung, the Chairman of the Police Sports Council, Assistant Commissioner Li Kin-fai, and the Chairman of the Force WPFG Organising Committee, Assistant Commissioner Lui Hon-kwok, visited competition venues to cheer on Force athletes every day, giving them big encouragement and support.
As policing work has never been more complex and more challenging, the Force athletes also took time out to renew acquaintance and make new friends from overseas, projecting the Force's image on a world stage. This kept the Force athletes abreast of time and enabled them to get better equipped for taking on challenges.
