Mong Kok District (MKDIST) has joined hands with Yau Tsim Mong District Fight Crime Committee (DFCC) in launching a new crime prevention initiative, "Project GATEWAY". At the launching ceremony on August 26, MKDIST Commander Mark Foster told community leaders that the project aims at making crime prevention messages more widely available in Mong Kok and giving residents a better understanding of police efforts to strengthen communication with the public.
During Phase One of the project, police crime prevention videos will be broadcast through the video display units installed in the lobbies of both residential and commercial buildings as well as dedicated Information Channels that residents can access through television at home.
Senior Police Call (SPC) members will be appointed GATEWAY Crime Prevention Ambassadors to assist in promoting upcoming crime prevention activities. To make the community more aware of the work of the police, copies of the first edition of the quarterly "Gateway" bulletin were distributed at the launching ceremony. They will also be circulated to District Councillors and DFCC members and at area committees and community events.
Later in the year, the project will be extended to Phase Two and Phase Three. In Phase Two, students will be appointed Junior Police Call Crime Prevention Ambassadors to form close partnerships with both primary and secondary schools for disseminating crime prevention messages. Phase Three will see broadcasting of crime prevention messages at other places, such as community centres, elderly centres and non-governmental organisations.
